About Vital Vet Animal Hospital

We are a family run practice with a small, close-knit Team that has been servicing the needs of the Ellenbrook community since 2007. Get to know your local vet again and see the same faces in a relaxed environment where we offer up-to-date knowledge, collaborative care, empathy, understanding and expertise to achieve the best outcomes for your pet.

Our experienced team of nurses have a wealth of knowledge in areas such as behaviour, husbandry and nutrition while our vets have a combined 50 years of experience including advanced training in areas such as anaesthesia, pathology, medicine and ophthalmology. We have a membership qualified surgeon that takes care of our more complicated procedures such as cranial cruciate repair, patella and airway surgery so you can rest assured your family member is in safe hands.

Meet the Team

Dr. Barry Odesnik

BVSc , BVSc (hons)

Dr. Barry Odesnik qualified as a veterinarian in South Africa in 1987. After spending two years as a military veterinarian, he entered small animal private practice. In 2000 he completed a three year post-graduate degree in Small Animal Internal Medicine.
Barry and his family immigrated to Perth in 2000. After working for a year as an emergency veterinarian, he spent the next six years in a busy small animal practice before starting Vital Vet Animal Hospital in 2007.
After more than 30 years as a vet, Dr. Barry remains dedicated, enthusiastic and enjoys applying his wealth of experience to each and every patient. Dr. Barry has a special interest in veterinary dermatology, clinical pathology and management of osteoarthritis.

Dr. Jennifer Wiseman

BVSc BVMS (Hons)

Dr. Jennifer Wiseman graduated from Murdoch University in 2006 at the top of her class. After working in a small animal practice in Mandurah for 4 years, she joined the team at Vital Vet in 2010. Dr. Jen has a special interest in general clinical medicine with an emphasis on ophthalmology.

Jen is currently on maternity leave.

Dr. Michelle Goerke

BSc BVMS MANZCVS

Dr. Michelle Goerke graduated from Murdoch University in 1991. She has a special interest in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Critical Care and has attained her membership qualification in this field. Michelle has a gorgeous, cheeky little terrier called Dora, and it goes without saying that Michelle has an extra special soft spot for our scruffy, fluffy and woolly little patients!

Dr. Rosamund Yozin

BVSc MANZCVS (Small Animal Medicine) GDip Ed

Dr. Rosamund Yozin graduated from Massey University in New Zealand in 2010 and moved to Australia a year later. She worked in rural practice before moving to Perth and has worked with small animals since. Dr. Ros gained her membership in Small Animal Medicine in 2014 but likes to keep her hands in most aspects of veterinary science including surgery and emergency.

Dr. Olivia Ryan

BVSc DVM

Dr Olivia graduated from Murdoch University in 2020 and spent her first year developing her emergency and surgical skills in a rural small animal practice in Geraldton, before joining our team. Olivia obtained a mischievous stray kitten while in Geraldton named Neville (The Devil/Longbottom). Olivia has a keen interest in soft tissue surgery and internal medicine.

Dr. Jannette Rose

BVSc DVM

Dr. Jannette Rose graduated from Murdoch University in 2021. She has a keen interest in small animal dermatology and avian medicine. Jannette has a full household with two children, a husband and a menagerie of pets. These include a dog called Marley, a cat called Dahlia, a cockatoo called Felix and a budgie called Jasper.

Jannette enjoys spending time outdoors horse riding, camping and hiking the Bibbulmun track with her family.

Lara Odesnik

Veterinary Nurse, RVN

Lara obtained her veterinary nursing diploma in South Africa in 1988 and has worked in small animal practice for many years. Lara’s main duties are in reception and she especially enjoys interacting with owners and their pets. Lara and Barry started Vital Vet Animal Hospital together in 2007. They have two adult children and their pets are Dasha the Whippet and a cat called Binx.

Katie

Veterinary Nurse, RVN

Katie has been a veterinary nurse since 2005, working in small animal practices. Katie has a Chihuahua/Cattle dog mix called Toby, guinea pigs, a flock of chooks, a horse called Jarrah, and a pony called Flake. Katie has a keen interest in nutrition and exotic animal medicine.

Jaimie

Veterinary Nurse, RVN

Jaimie has worked in the industry for many year at many clinics: qualifying in 2000. She had a break to have children and returned to nursing when she joined the Vital Vet team. She owns a Border Collie called Ripley, two kitties Heff and Ava and a rather large flock of chooks.

Bethany

Veterinary Nurse, RVN

Bethany Maree began Puppy class training and kennel hand duties and vet nursing duties in 1998 and has continued her passion ever since.

Bethany has completed her Cert 4 in Vet nursing in 2005 after doing 2 years of Environmental Science at Uni, finding her passion was being a voice for the animals. Growing up she was that girl that rescued and looked after all the injured abandoned animals, working closing with wildlife rehab centres as she got older and became a wildlife carer for Northern suburbs for 5 years. Bethany has a loving family and although only has one child, has many fur children including two French Mastiffs (Sadie and Charles), a Corgi called Harri, two Chihuahuas Eevee and Lola (whom some of you have met a puppy class), reptiles and farm animals!

Cayla

Veterinary Nurse, RVN

Cayla is our youngest team member and graduated in 2014. She owns a Maltese x called Chandler and a an adopted kitty called Joey. She is huge Friends fan and loves her Disney!

Rae

Veterinary Nurse, RVN

Rae graduated in 2005 from Bentley tafe. Rae started off in small animal practice for 5yrs and then worked in animal welfare for 4yrs. Rae then became a locum nurse and worked in several practices across Perth, in both small animal and equine. Rae decided to join our team in 2016. Rae owns two cats Diva a domestic short hair and Flame, a Burmese. Rae has a Belgian Malinois called Lore and also horse called Rogue.

Bec

Veterinary Nurse, RVN & Clinic Co-ordinator

Bec started with us in 2017 as a student nurse, and became a member of our team in 2019 when she was fully qualified. Bec is responsible for coordinating the team and making sure that the hospital is running smoothly and efficiently. Bec has an interest in wildlife and reptiles, and has several years experience working as a volunteer with native animals. She has an Australian Kelpie and two Stimson’s Pythons.  When not at work Rebecca enjoys spending time with her family.

Tayla

Veterinary Nurse RVN

Tayla graduated and qualified in 2019 from Bently TAFE and has been working in small animal practices since. She joined our team in 2020.

Tayla has a keen interest in anaesthesia and surgical nursing. Her passion for helping animals in need is the reason why she became a vet nurse and decided to have a zoo of her own, despite her husband’s hesitation:)

She has an American Bulldog named Harley (who keeps her on her toes), his feline friend Ivar, a pink and grey galah named Harry and a Stimson python named Sheeba.

Monique

Veterinary Nurse RVN

Monique has been a veterinary nurse since 2014, working predominantly in small animal clinics and joined our team in 2020.
Monique has 4 cats and 2 small dogs. She has a special interest in neonatal care and in her spare time raises and rehabilitates little kittens.

Jess O.

Veterinary Nurse RVN

Jess is from sunny Singapore (she can speak Mandarin) and started her nursing career in Melbourne.

She moved to Perth in 2019 to have her second child and to be closer to her husband’s family. Jess joined the Vital Vet team after maternity leave and considers herself very fortunate to be part of a great team. She loves all aspects of her job but finds the handling of anxious pets the most challenging. You might hear Jess singing here kid’s favourite nursery rhymes to the animals to help calm their nerves.

Outside of work, Jess has two little girls and two mini schnauzers to keep her occupied. She loves baking and hunting for new recipes to cook up a storm on her days off.

Jess S.

Veterinary Nurse RVN

Jess graduated in 2019 after having a year off after high school. Having grown up with a passion for animals, it was inevitable that she would end up in this line of work. Jess’ pets are Mack, a miniature bull terrier, Finral and Wombat, both Netherlands dwarfs, Possum, a Dwarf Lop, Meekinos an American Staffy and lucky last, Janah, a Dwarf Lop.

Angie James-Wallace

Practice Manager

Angie worked as a practice manager for an allied health clinic for five years before joining the Vital Vet team in 2012. Angie takes care of all things non-veterinary, making sure that the administrative tasks are taken care of and that the team can focus on their patients. Angie has a rescue Greyhound called Django.
